Part of the collection: Marta Olchawa – A Girl Rescued From The Lviv Ghetto
Military service book (D series, no. 199108) belonging to Marta Józefa Olchawa (born Bauer), issued by the Regional Military Command Office in Wołomin on 24 September 1963 – the book comprises 20 sheets, it is filled in by hand, in Polish. It has a maroon cover adorned with an image of a crownless eagle and the title of the document. Inside, the pages are numbered from 2 to 37. The cover is not included in the pagination. On the other side of the front cover, there is the name of the issue, the series and number of the book, name and date of birth of the holder, place and date of issuance. Glued to the bottom left corner is a document photo of Marta Olchawa, stamped with a round stamp of the Regional Military Command Office. Pages 2 and 3 include general data (I): place of birth, profession, and education. Pages 4 and 5: conscription process (II); there is only one entry, on page 4, with a stamp of the Command Office. Pages 6–10 are dedicated to information on the military service (III) – they are left blank. Pages 11–16 form a section on “promotions to higher military ranks” – there is only one entry, on page 11. Page 17 is dedicated to “notes on placement in reserve, auxiliary military service (IV)” – it is filled in and stamped with the stamp of the Command Office. Page 18 holds military records (V) – it is also filled in. Pages 19–21 form a section on the course of military training (VI); they are blank, as are pages 22–23 (notes on medical examinations). The section on pages 24–29 is titled: “Notes on the inclusion and removal from the register by bodies responsible for keeping military records” (VIII); it bears one entry with a stamp of the Command Office (on page 24). There are no entries on page 30, dedicated to notes on exemption from obligatory military service (IX), or on page 31 (official comments from the Regional Military Command Office or the Military Unit [X]). The pages 32–37 are dedicated to “Guidelines for the military service book holder”. At the bottom edge of the last page, numbered 37, there is information on the printing house which produced the book: “Wojsk. Druk. w Łodzi. Zam. 580 z dn. 21 VI 55 r. | CW-22325”. | Text by Monika Harchut
