2nd half of the 19th century
Castle Museum in Łańcut
Part of the collection: ceramics
The jug most likely from a toilet-washing set, made of chalk-white faience cast, decorated with a decal of rose-flowered sprigs, sparsely arranged on the surface of the vessel. The jug form was borrowed from the way linen materials are formed. The outstanding property of the vessel is its spherical belly which is separated from the foot and neck by a unique necking, vividly imitating the draping, i.e. creasing of the fabric with a soft pink ribbon that wraps around the belly bottom and top. The ribbon is dragged between the four vertical loops present in both the foot and neck sections. The foot is very low, flared. The cup-shaped neck is flared with six curves, one of which is the mouth of the jug spout. On the spout axis, a braided handle is positioned which descends in a gentle downward arc from the upper neck. On the surface of the belly and neck, there are floral and bouquet arrangements and small twigs arranged, being fragments of those compositions, in a light pastel colour palette, featuring pink, yellow, green, and blue. Some parts of floral decoration are placed both outside and inside the neck. The reverse of the jug features a large printed signature: Sarreguemines.
