Chair

Part of the collection: Meble i wyposażenie wnętrz

Popularization note

The displayed chair is an acquisition of the Museum-Castle in Łańcut, which came from donations. The gilded, decorated with woodcarvings, and upholstered item was added to the furnishings of the Rococo Salon on the second floor of the castle. In the second half of the 19th century, the Rococo Salon, together with neighbouring rooms, belonged to the apartments of subsequent young married couples from the Potocki family: Alfred II and his wife, Maria (née Sanguszko), and Roman and his wife, Elżbieta (née Radziwiłł). The set of Louis XV-style (Rococo) French furniture collected by the museum in the salon, complements the atmosphere of a private home from the time of the fashion for past historical styles, in this case, the second Rococo. The furnishings of the 'Rococo Salon' include a set of five chairs marked with the symbol of their maker: a letter K enclosed in an oval and preceded by a Latin cross (S.10674MŁ; S.10675MŁ; S.10676MŁ; S.10677MŁ; S.10678MŁ). So far, it has not been possible to determine the identity of the master carpenter who used this signature. Teresa Bagińska-Żurawska https://orcid.org/0000-0002-9243-3967
