A letter

Popularization note

A letter to Emanuel Justman from the family in Warsaw - from Regina Justman. The content: the sister writes to her brother that she has received a message from Paulina Włodawer that the latter is now in Siberia. The letter is from the period when part of the family that remained in Warsaw had to leave Pańska 69. The excerpt from the letter: “As far as I am concerned, I am encouraged by the fact that I could not have done differently [than to stay in Warsaw? - add. Ed.] and did not have a choice. As for you, you are completely unnecessarily reproaching yourself, because if you stayed here, you could not help us with anything, and this way you may be useful again someday. [...] Were it not for the realization that they [my parents - ed.] need me, they need me awfully, all this hassle would be completely pointless and unbearable. So I wander the streets of the city every day, which in no way resembles that old bright big Warsaw. Hideous creature, freak mutilated [,] fuselage ulcerated and groaning. A curse fell on the city, even the sky got angry and the climate changed. Frosts, snowstorms and winds plague the unfortunates who were so afraid of Siberia. But while everyone is against us, two allies remained faithful: time and hope. One thing is certain in this chaos: time is moving forward; a little longer, and the snow will melt, the windstorms will quiet down, and the war must end anyway. On the last page there is a request for these letters to be handed over by the brother of Paulina Włodawer, and a request to contact and deliver (if you are able) the parcel to a relative of the family where the Justmans are living. The woman's address is written in a different handwriting and in Cyrillic. In the lower left corner of the first page in italics (other than Regina’s Justman) and in pencil no .: 1619.
