Candlestick

Candlestick The candlestick was made in the porcelain manufactory in Klášterec, established in 1794 by Johann Nicolaus Weber and Johann Gottlieb Sonntag, on Count František Josef Thun’s behalf. The candlestick consists of a round-arched foot, baluster-shaped shaft, and candle sleeve in the form of a vase. The cream background is decorated with a branch of maroon peony with light and dark green leaves; in the background, there are meadow grasses sketchily painted in grey. The candlestick decoration was copied from a lavatory set made in the faience factory Utzschneider & Cie in Sarreguemines, France, in the 4th quarter of the 19th century. Such a set was in possession of the Potocki family at the Castle in Łańcut, where it is still kept today. The candlestick might have been made for that set in the porcelain factory in Klášterec.
