Writing set

Writing set It consists of an inkwell and a sandbox on a stand, made in the Royal Porcelain Manufactory in Berlin around 1870. This plant was founded in 1763 after the Ernst Gotzowski manufactory was taken over by Frederick the Great. The above writing set is made of milky white porcelain. Both utensils are cube-shaped, the stand is five-sided and has a wavy back. Behind the utensils, there is the figure of a standing young woman in a long robe and Eastern hairstyle. A tall plaited basket stands beside. The sandbox is a vessel for the sand that used to be sprinkled on a freshly inked text until the invention of tissue paper. Sets of writing instruments were made in many ceramic manufactures. In the Castle Museum in Łańcut there is one more 19th-century writing set, previously belonging to the former owners of the castle, which has been preserved; it consists of an inkwell and a sandbox and was made in the Meissen porcelain manufacture (inv. no.
