Part of the collections: Craft and industry products of Szczecin, Szczecin that is no longer
In Germany in the first half of the 20th century, milk production accounted for about one fifth of all agricultural products. Milk, however, was not very popular among Germans at the time. Special campaigns by the Ministry of Agriculture to promote the consumption of dairy products, implemented under the slogan "More milk, butter, cheese!", convinced the public that milk is not only tasty but also healthy, in turn helping to support the industry. Szczecin dairy companies differentiated the types of dairy products and the producer through distinctive lettering and images on the glass – raised or flat, black, dark blue or transparent. Two local dairies in particular were popular: Molkerei Eckerberg, whose headquarters were located at 119 Falkenwalderstrasse (now Wojska Polskiego Avenue) and Stettiner Molkerei Gesellschaft GmbH located at 68-70 Turnerstrasse (now Jagiellońska Street) and later transformed into the cooperative Stettiner Molkereigenosenschaft. A half-litre thick-necked transparent bottle, embossed with the name Stettiner Molkerei Gesellschaft, has been preserved to this day in the Szczecin History Museum. For much of the 19th century, milk was still brought to wealthier homes by hired women in special bubbles placed on their backs with a cloth. It was not until the Randower Molkerei dairy was established in Stettin in 1883 that milk began to be supplied en masse, by being delivered by cart to homes by the delivery man. Małgorzata Peszko
