Part of the collection: Painting and drawing
Park scene This painting from the collection of the museum depicts a group of people against the backdrop of a park. The painting stems from ca. 1750, was made by an unknown author from the Flemish school. The middle part of the painting is taken up by a group composed of a dancing young woman with a child, a seated man and a woman holding a basket of fruit on her head. The central figure is the young dancing woman, the attention of the others is focused on her, save for the young man playing the flute, and the child. Slightly farther back, on the right side of the girl, there is a hunter (forest caretaker?) and a boy playing the flute, for the dancing woman. The hunter is accompanied by a spotted dog. The right side of the painting is taken up by a group of three figures: a standing man and two seated women looking on the dancer. The scene plays out against the backdrop of trees and water. On the left side, one can see a broad, leafy tree, in the centre – a tight group of trees and bushes, and on the right side – a fragment of a leafy tree. On the right, behind the figures, there is a view of space with a bald hill. Above the horizon it is white – grey clouds, in the remaining part of the painting – blue skies. The scene plays out on a meadow, on the bank of a river or stream. The colours are dark, the arrangement is livened up by the bright close of the participants. The topic is quite typical for the period and school, it was the purpose of such depictions to show the nicer sides of life, to praise joy and carefreeness. The painting has a wooden, profiled, gilded frame decorated with a narrow Lesbian cymatium, and it is on display on the ground floor of the castle in Łańcut.
