Ostrich feather fan, tortoiseshell, 19th c., A fan made of ostrich feathers, the frame consists of sixteen feathers and two lining feathers. Stripe shaped feathers made of tortoiseshell in beige and orange, thicker at the handle, tapered at the top. Lining feathers slightly thicker, semi-flat in cross-section. The ‘covering’ of the fan is made of fluffy, dense ostrich black feathers. All tortoiseshell feathers fastened with a brass buckle.
