A saucer for a coffee cup

Part of the collection: ceramics

Popularization note

A saucer for a coffee cup The saucer is a set with a cup (see inv. no. S. 2828 MŁ). The objects were made in the Meissen porcelain manufactory around the middle of the 18th century and probably formed part of a coffee service. The saucer is made of thin, white porcelain. It is bowl-shaped with a characteristic curved rim. Its inner surface is covered with a chinoiserie pattern called Indian blumen: a thread of stylised twigs. Along the rim of the saucer runs a strip of geometric ornamentation. The pattern is painted in crimson pink with accents of dark crimson and yellow. Barbara Trojnar
