Plate clock

Part of the collection: Zegary

Popularization note

Plate clocks were especially popular in German-speaking countries from around the second half of the 17th century until the mid-18th century. Due to their shape, they became known as 'plate clocks'. The workshop where the displayed clock comes from is not known. The clock in Łańcut was decorated with a Rococo-Regency ornament. A round brass dial was installed in a case made of repoussé brass plate. The dial is shaped like a wide ring with engraved Roman numerals for hours and Arabic ones for minutes. The case is crowned by a palmette. On the front, there is a small pendulum under the dial surrounded by volute motifs.
