Part of the collection: Critical and post-critical art
The series of nine book-objects by Ryszard Górecki (1956- ), a painter, creator of objects, collages, drawings and cultural animator, is in many ways a project critical of the present. One of them is the intelligent game the artist plays with the practice of creating fake news, disinformation and its increasing effect on reality. The project is a complex mystification in which the non-existent publishing house Invisible Sign publishes Górecki's books, completely devoid of content except for their covers. The photographs used on the covers are also intriguingly manipulated. At first glance they resemble documentary photographs, but in the narrative layer they reveal absurd, surprising content. The whole is completed by a provocative, intriguing and often paradoxical title. Górecki calls his object books a warning and a 'plausible lie'. In his commentary on the series, the artist, who has lived in Berlin since 2002, explains that the immediate inspiration for the project came from visits to Polish bookshops, where popular or pseudo-scientific books are prominently displayed and are very popular with readers.
