Piece of a relief from the Baths of Caracalla in Rome A marble piece of relief from the Baths of Caracalla in Rome, with a carved ornamental trail, is marked with a modern inscription dated 11 February 1856. It is a kind of souvenir of antiquity brought back from a trip to Italy by someone from the Potocki family, the owners of the Łańcut castle, possibly by Alfred Józef Potocki (1822–1889), the future Second Entailer of Łańcut. The Baths of Caracalla in Rome were being built from 206 during the reign of Septimius Severus and were completed in 217 during the reign of Caracalla. They were the largest and most magnificent Roman public baths. Their interior was richly decorated and furnished with works of art, including sculptures. They have only survived in ruins. A piece of the Baths of Caracalla is listed in the 1862 inventory of the Łańcut castle, as belonging to the Sculpture Gallery, where it exhibited up to this day. Barbara Trojnar
