Firewood container Despite the late 19th-century introduction of a central heating system, which distributed warm air through ducts hidden under the floor, cookers and fireplaces still functioned in the interiors of Łańcut Castle. This was a necessity dictated by the climate conditions. The firewood container was one of the indispensable accessories used in autumn and winter to light the cookers and fireplaces where family and social life gathered around the fire. The presented wooden container has the shape of a box decorated with carved neo-Rococo ornaments. Although the piece is unsigned, it is possible that it was made by the full-service interior design company Portois & Fix. The box complements a set of bedroom furniture purchased by the Potockis from the renowned Viennese firm when furnishing their Łańcut flats in the 1890s.
