Part of the collection: The portfolio of graphics "La Mémoire Gravée" by Izaak Celnikier
In early January 1944, Celnikier was sent from Stutthof to Birkenau (Auschwitz II). He recalled: The smoke of burning bodies was omnipresent, the bodies of the murdered also. This atmosphere and impression of unprecedented horror is conveyed by a multi-faceted scene with a jumble of living and dead bodies shrouded in ominous smoke.
