When Celnikier was taken to Auschwitz at the beginning of 1944, he made a mental note of what he passed on years later with the words: We were pushed towards the Effektenkammer, there we were shaved and tattooed, apparently we were not immediately destined for the gas. The multifaceted scene of shaving and tattooing figures whose heads form a circle is completed in the title by the camp number 171870, tattooed on Celnikier's left forearm.
