Figurine of a fisherman with a fishing rod. Fisherman holding a fishing rod, eyes painted in black. Small animal bone figurine placed on a black wooden rock-shaped stand. The man wearing a long robe wrapped around his waist is depicted in a dynamic body posture . He supports his foot high on a pile of rocks and maneuvers his fishing rod holding it vertically upwards. At the end of the line, a caught fish, which he holds in his hand. Japanese production of small carved figurines increased around 1880; these were trinkets intended for export to Europe. Decorative objects of this type were used as desk and furniture decorations called okimono or netsuke, they became popular among the growing market of collectors in Poland and Europe. Japan, first half of 19th century.
