The photograph depicts a middle-aged man depicted in a bust, en face, with his head turned to the left and his eyes directed straight ahead. Oval face with small eyes, a high forehead and curled moustache over prominent lips. Short hair parted on the right side. The man is dressed in a white shirt and frock coat. In the upper left corner, there is a handwritten signature: Auguste Potocki, 16 Mai 99. In the lower left corner, in golden letters: Bary, in the right corner: Ancne Photographie Benque 33 Rue Roissy d'Anglas.
The photograph depicts August Potocki, son of Maurycy Eustachy Potocki. August's grandfather was Aleksander Stanisław Potocki from Wilanów. August was born on Christmas Eve 1847 in Cracow and died on 3rdJune 1905 in Warsaw. He studied law at the Warsaw School of Economics. It was then that he became interested in livestock and agriculture. Passionate and pioneer of racing sports, he was vice-president of the Horse Racing Society until the end of his life. A social and agricultural activist, heir of Jabłonna, Wola Starogrodzka and Zator. After the construction of the Wieprzówka canal and under the management of Michał Naimski, the farm in Zator became the most modern farm in the country. On 20th May 1905 became an honourable member of the National Fishermen's Society. The Count did not avoid from entertainment and social gatherings, hence he was known as "Count Gucio".
The photograph in our collection is therefore another family heirloom, a memory of a well-known and distinguished member of the Potocki family.
