The figurine is placed on a black wooden base in the shape of a rock. Japanese production of small carved figurines increased around 1880, they were trinkets destined for export to Europe. Decorative objects of this type were used as desk and furniture decorations called okimono or netsuke, they became popular among the growing market of collectors in Poland and Europe.
