Henry IV

Part of the collection: Rzeźby

Popularization note

Henry IV Henry IV (1553-1610) came from the House of Bourbon; he was the king of Navarre, and from 1589, the king of France. The miniature bronze bust depicts an elderly man with a slender face, a prominent nose, and a moustache and beard. He is wearing a hat with feathers. He is dressed in a caftan with a narrow collar and a coat trimmed with fur, on which a medal cross can be seen. The bust is placed on a base consisting of a brass pedestal, a marble shaft encircled by a metal chain, and a brass stand. The author of the bust is not known. It was most likely created by a French sculptor. The sculpture was created at the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries. It adorns the mantel in the castle's Library, together with a second miniature bronze bust depicting Maximilien de Béthune de Sully on an identical stand (inventory number S.11739MŁ).
