Louis XIV on horseback

The bronze statue depicts Louis XIV seated on a mounted horse, in the costume and pose of a Roman emperor, with a wig on his head. In the right hand moved away from his torso he holds a regiment mace, the left, bent at the elbow, holds the reins. The king is dressed in a tunic and a cloak fastened over his right shoulder. He is wearing armour decorated with stylised motifs of eagles and Bourbon lilies. The sculpture is set on a wooden pedestal, painted black. The author is unknown. It is modelled on the equestrian statue of the Bavarian Elector Maximilian II Emmanuel (1662–1726) made in 1714 by Guillielmus de Grof, a Dutch sculptor and coppersmith. The statue should be dated after 1714. It comes from the collection of Princess Izabela Lubomirska (1736–1816), the owner of the Łańcut castle. It is currently exhibited in the Library.
