Part of the collection: Correspondence from Emilia Endler Ratz
The letter to Emilia Ratz on two lined cards. From the contents: I feel very lonely, before when there was a lot of work, I was absorbed in the present moment, I did not feel it so painfully as now. | We are already very close to Poland, it is only a matter of a dozen or so weeks before we see our beloved country. In connection with this, there are a lot of unclear subjects, of a general and personal nature, about which I would like to talk with old friends, with you Milka above all. As I gather from your letters, you, too, would like to talk with me, perhaps soon we shall be able to realise this, if only I manage to return alive. [We now live in a village, recently freed from the German invaders. Luckily, they left it whole, only the inhabitants speak of German atrocities. We have little work. We only study, improving our qualifications. I like my military speciality very much, so I decided to study and work in the field of radio after the war [after the war Halina Altman became an editor at a magazine - ed.] [...] Our friend Kazik Krykus died in combat. Jerzyk was awarded a medal. I did not see him after his brother's death, and I think that it made a terrible impression on him. | I get absolutely nothing from the girls Nina, Roma and Lusia. I do not even know where Lusia is. [...] I receive letters from my father very often, he is in Moscow, he works in ZPP [Union of Polish Patriots - see https://sztetl.org.pl/en/glossary/zwiazek-patriotow-polskich]. He complains about the emigrant mood that prevails there, about gossip and pettiness. This is, unfortunately, a general disease and one has to be very careful not to get infected. | See the description of the history of the Altman family in the note to letter MPOLIN-A8.1.3.
