A letter

The letter from Halina Altman to Emilia Ratz on two pages. The author of the letter characterises her situation at the beginning: A great many changes have taken place with me. I changed my job (now I do what most of our friends do, which is political and educational work). I have also changed, for the second time, my unit - I am now an artilleryman. My direct commanding officer is Genek Zadrzyński. She then turns to the theme of the Warsaw Uprising, writing in language that echoes the terms used against the London government (and the imagery is visible) characteristic of the political and educational work mentioned earlier in the letter: But the most important thing is that I am now on the Vistula, a few dozen kilometres from our beloved Warsaw. It is hard to imagine how terribly our tired city is suffering. For a week now we have seen the glow and smoke from above Warsaw. The capital is burning and its inhabitants are fighting heroically. Unfortunately, hundreds of people are falling unnecessarily, as innocent victims of the domestic fascism of Sosnkowski. I believe that the press gives you an idea of the situation in the country.
