Part of the Łańcut greenhouse

Part of the collection: photography

Popularization note

A fragment of Łańcut greenhouses, 1920s. The photograph depicts a fragment of greenhouses erected in the times of the third ordinary, Roman Potocki, in the park, between the schooling area and palm house, for raising orchids, amaryllis and chrysanthemums. It is modelled on the Viennese Rotschild greenhouses. Apart from the practical part, the greenhouse included a minor exhibition with several sculptures set among the lush flora. There was a tradition that guests visiting Łańcut would get to see the greenhouses, guided by the ordinaries, shown by the Potoccy, Roman, and their last son, Alfred Antoni. Through the open door of the porch, we see the exhibition part. After World War II, the Łańcut greenhouses were taken over by the company Igloopol. It was only in the 1990s that the decrepit site was taken over by the Łańcut Castle Museum, which undertook their redevelopment. Today, they house orchids, and are called the „Orchid house”.
